Day 7: Angela's "31 Days of Pink: Project for a Purpose"

Day 7: One of my favorite Vera Bradley purse patterns in my collection: "Pink Cupcakes", (the pattern's name, alone, should tell you I would like it :) given to me by my in-laws for my birthday last year. The Vera Bradley company established the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer and their patterns that generate proceeds supporting breast cancer research are gorgeous. Today's breast cancer fact, courtesy Susan G. Komen for the Cure: Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide.

Tomorrow, October 8th, is Vera Bradley's "Tickled Pink Day". 25% of net proceeds from each purchase online and at participating retailers will be donated to the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer. I look forward to taking part and shopping for the cause!

My pink and green rolling luggage. I have no trouble spotting my luggage at the airport baggage claim line.

As mammography screening rates have increased, more cases of breast cancer are found at earlier stages, when they are more easily and successfully treated.

Day 4: Angela's "31 Days of Pink: Project for a Purpose"

This is one of my favorite hair products: Paul Mitchell's "Hot Off The Press" flat iron protectant product. Right now, they are selling this special edition pink can for their "Style for a Cause" campaign, with proceeds from the sales going to breast cancer research.
Today's breast cancer fact, courtesy Susan G. Komen for the Cure:
Although rare, younger women can also get breast cancer. Just five percent of all breast cancers occur in women under age 40.

Day 3: Angela's "31 Days of Pink: Project for a Purpose"

One of my favorite aprons, purchased from some of my favorite Southern mavens in Oklahoma at Tulsa's Tea and Magnolias I wore it often on the "Now You're Cookin'" show and it made the move with me, where it continues to represent my Southern flair in my New York kitchen.

Breast Cancer Fact, courtesy Susan G. Komen for the Cure:
Since 1975, the incidence of breast cancer has increased among both white women than black women. However, during this same time period, mortality rates have decreased for white women, but increased somewhat for black women.

Day 2: Angela's "31 Days of Pink: Project for a Purpose"

This is one of my favorite sets of house pajamas: pink with a cupcakes design. So soft and warm for the coming winter months here in NY.

Day 1: Angela's "31 Days of Pink: Project for a Purpose"

October is here and it brings one of my favorite times of year, my mother's birthday month and a month full of all kinds of fun fall and Halloween activities. This year, it brings my first autumn as a bride and my 2nd blogiversary celebration. It is also "Breast Cancer Awareness Month". Each day this month, I decided I will share a picture of one of the many pink items in my life that I love and along with the picture, I will be sharing a breast cancer fact or prevention tip courtesy of Susan G. Komen for the Cure . Several of the items I will be sharing are made by companies that give to the cause through the purchase of that very item.

Today's pink item has quickly become one of my favorite things. I fell in love with this item when I saw it on the store rack at the shopping mall and when I read the tag about the company's commitment to the fight against breast cancer, I just had to get it. This is the Columbia Sportswear Company pink ribbon full zip fleece, priced at $34.99. Besides producing this beautiful piece of  breast cancer awareness wear, the company supports the National Breast Cancer Foundation by providing funding for prevention programs. You can learn more about their commitment to the cause here.  Also note it is displayed on another one of my favorite pink items: my in-law's handmade quilt, currently on our upstairs guest bed.

Today's breast cancer fact, courtesy of Susan G. Komen for the Cure:
In 2011, it is estimated that among U.S. women, there will be 230,480 new cases of invasive breast cancer.
